DOMAIN REGISTRY OF AMERICA IS A SCAM

SPECIAL POST

You won't see me comment on a business practice very often, but this scam is so pugnacious that I have an absolute obligation to you to report on it.

The company is Domain Registry of America located in Buffalo, New York.  Their scam is that they send you "official" announcements that your website domain name registration is about to expire, and that you need to renew with them or risk loss of your online identity.  The tab is $35 for a year, $60 for two years and $120 for five years.  Since the notice comes at a time when your domain registration is actually due for renewal, you may be fooled into paying it and they have then succeeded in "slamming" your account away from your legitimate domain registrar, usually the website host you've been doing business with for years.

Don't even think about asking for your money back.  The company has hundreds of unanswered complaints filed against it at the Better Business Bureau, where it has an "F" rating.  It has been in numerous legal difficulties over the years.   If you have a website, you need to be aware of this scam.  If your website is a business website, you need to notify your accounts payable people not to pay on such an invoice.

That's MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
