IT'S TIME TO LEAVE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

SPECIAL POST

I've said it several times and I'll now repeat myself, this time with emphasis: The Republican Party may just as well fold itself into the Democratic Party and disappear into the dust.

I can understand why they put up Bush I for the Presidency; he was riding Reagan's coattails and was a dead-cinch winner.  Putting up Bush II was dumb, dumb, dumb.  Putting up McCain was dumber, dumber and dumber.  Putting up Romney was just plain asinine.  In all three cases, the Republican hierarchy decided from the beginning who they wanted to nominate long before the primaries began and, in all three cases, they set about sabotaging any potential candidate who got in the way.   Bush 2 squeaked out a win where he probably shouldn't have and the other two were missing in action. I say "missing in action" because they didn't take off the gloves and they treated Obama with temerity, almost with deference.

In all three cases the membership of the party, the people who pay the bills and vote, were given mere lip service as to their input.  They were basically told to sit down, shut up and fork over some money.  As soon as the nominations were sealed, then the hierarchy came out with olive branches and rear-end kisses.  In other words, those in charge of the Republican Party don't give a hoot about their fraternity brothers.

Herman Cain is suggesting the formation of a new party.  He asserts that there are enough real, genuine Americans in both political parties who are upset enough with the status quo to morph into a viable alternative that can win and make a difference.  I'm inclined to agree with him.

We've all tried to be patient in the hopes that those in charge would see the errors of their ways and come to their senses.  To that extent, we're to blame; we should have been loud, clear and insistent and we should have formed our own party when they made it clear that Romney was their choice and that there was nothing we could do about it.  They did fear that might happen, but were quick to point out that the creation of a third party would guarantee an Obama win,  Well, guess what?  Obama won anyway and I'm now not so sure that a third party couldn't have walked away with an American of their choosing in the White House.

That's where my energy will now be directed.  Next week, I'm going into the registrar's office and I'm changing my party preference to "non-partisan."  And I'm urging everyone else who is fed up with the way things are to join me.  In that way, we make our commitment to a new direction loud and clear and we summarily remove any perceived obligation on the part of the Republicans to continue their pretenses.

That's MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
