It was learned late yesterday afternoon that top I.R.S. official Lois Lerner will plead the 5th Amendment in her forthcoming appearance before the Congressional investigation into the I.R.S. targeting matter. Lerner was in charge of the unit responsible for the targeting of conservative groups for audits and lengthy times for conservative organizations to gain tax exempt status; she was promoted and put in charge of the I.R.S. unit handling ObamaCare enforcement. Lerner will refuse to answer any questions regarding what she knows about the targeting of conservative groups. She will also refuse to explain why she is refusing to answer questions. and she has also hired a top attorney to represent her.
We should have expected such a move. In fact, I would expect another Obama claim of Executive Privilege before this mess is over with. If you think you've seen stonewalling in Fast & Furious and Benghazi Massacre scandals, you're in for a big surprise with this story. This early claim of immunity tells me that there are yet bigger fish to fry.
