SPECIAL POST
Actually, I shouldn’t be writing this because I’ve been marginalized by
HRHTOO, (His Royal Highness, The Omnipotent One). “There will be pundits and politicians and
special interest lobbyists publicly warning of a tyrannical all-out assault on
liberty, not because that’s true, but because they want to gin up fear or
higher ratings or revenue for themselves,” he predicted. “And behind the
scenes, they’ll do everything they can to block any common-sense reform and
make sure nothing changes whatsoever.”
You’re not just a tootin’ I’ll be hollering!
Here are his 23 “Executive
Actions:”
1. Require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal
background check system. (Who decides
what’s relevant?)2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. (Why don’t we just trash HIPPA? I’m good with that.)
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system. (Do what I demand or lose your highway funds.)
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks. (Do we have a definition of “dangerous people?”?)
5. Proposes to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun. (This surely opens the door to illegal seizures.)
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers. (I suppose one thug is going to subject himself to a background check before selling his illegal weapon to another thug?)
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign. (This is a great idea; I agree with it.)
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission). (Huh? How would this prevent Sandy Hook?)
9. Require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations. (Duh, is this Cops 101 or what?)
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement. (No gun intended to be used in a crime by a criminal is going to be in this report.)
11. Nominate an ATF director. (Gosh and golly. This needs an Executive Order?)
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations. (Agreed.)
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime. (Agreed.)
14. Direct the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. (Agreed)
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies. (How about plugging all gun barrels?)
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes. (Doctors have no business asking that question.)
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities, (Okay, I’m luke warm to this one.).
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers. (What in the hell is that job?)
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education. (Why not require those entities to develop their own plans?)
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover. (Does this require an Executive Order? Does everything he does require a dictate?)
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges. (I fail to see the connection to gun violence.)
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations. (Now we have an Executive Order to commit to something?)
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health. (How sweet.)
Nothing in this diatribe
addresses underlying sociological influences and problems. Now, he has also ordered Congress to:
Require universal background checks (will not stop illegal sales)
Set 10-round limits on magazines (will not cut down number of bullets
used)
Stop sale of “military style” assault rifles (define one)
Get tougher on people who buy guns with the purpose of reselling them
to criminals (is this some national crime disease we’ve never heard of?)
Put more cops on the street, (does that mean we’re going to fire a
bunch of cops?)
Finally, he pontificated that “The right to own guns must not be
allowed to prevent the other rights of Americans.” What rights?
He’s taking them all away.
Well, don’t pay attention to what I’ve said here. I’m trying to obfuscate, according to the
first paragraph. Sorry, but I’m here to practice
my First Amendment Rights, Omnipotent One, and I don’t give a damn whether you
like it or not.
That’s MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
