OUR SICK SOCIETY

A twenty-year-old man walks into an elementary school and opens fire, killing 26 adults and children before dying himself.  Another gunman walks into a mall and opens fire with an automatic rifle.  Yet another one storms into a movie theater and opens fire.  Someone pushes a guy off the platform into the front of a subway train.  A five-year-old girl gets kidnapped, brutally raped and killed before being tossed into a garbage dumpster.   Young men and women are kidnapped and taken to other countries to be sex slaves.

The list of horrendous criminal acts taking place in our country today seems endless.  It is our reaction to these sick acts that is even more horrendous.  We add security systems and procedures to our residences and other buildings.  We turn our schools into forts.  We take away the liberties of law-abiding citizens in order to protect ourselves against the violent acts of others.  In these processes, we fail to recognize and address the actual sources of the problems.

During the last 50 years, this nation has seen the almost total destruction of the family unit.  Divorce is commonplace and virtually all households have both parents working.  Television took the place of “parenting” for several decades; now it’s the internet, cell phones and texting.  At the same time, there has been a tolerance of forces that are antagonistic to an orderly society, such as drugs, anti-religious movements, violence as a culture and lack of civility in general.  Our “heroes” have displayed traits that are contrary to morality and ethics and our politicians and judges have become corrupt.

All of these changes have combined to create a nation of heartless, senseless, psychopathic zombies… people who have no real sense of what is right and wrong and no feelings of compassion or empathy.  In short, we are dehumanizing ourselves.

Somehow, some way, we have to come to grips with the frightening truth: we have become so wrapped up in ourselves and our own busy lives that we have neglected to protect ourselves and our society from these evils which have encroached on our way of life.  Folks, we’re getting slapped in the face with a real dose of solid reality.  We can no longer abrogate our duties to our country by ignoring what is going on in Washington and we can’t continue to leave the responsibility of raising our children up to liberal-left teachers, television, movies and texting.

We have to get involved, and we have to get involved now.  The best place to start is by public education in child-rearing, government, ethics, morals and the fundamentals of religion… any religion.  If our children are not taught right from wrong, if they are not ingrained with boundaries of society, we can expect nothing different than more of the tragedies we have seen this last year.

That’s MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
