WHAT'S WITH PAKISTAN?

SPECIAL POST

The United States has been feeding billions of dollars into Pakistan for years, trying to keep their nukes from falling into the hands of terrorists or other enemies and trying to buy Western influence in the region.  There has always been an underlying hatred in many segments of Pakistani society toward the U.S., but the recent raid and killing of Osama bin Laden has now caused the situation to boil to the surface.  Protestors have taken to the streets and the government has issued stern warnings to the United States.

The knee-jerk reaction here is to get all of our people out of Pakistan and quit sending them money.  But, the real problem is that radical Islamists are expanding in numbers throughout the entire area, and all governments there are in danger of becoming totally devout enemies of the U.S.  This is the problem in Egypt, in Yemen, in Libya, Tunisia...

So, what do we do about it?  We can't just go running in there and starting bombing the Al Queda types out.  Who knows who is what in that God forsaken neck of the woods, anyway.  We can't commit troops to the ground; we don't have enough to go around.  If we do nothing, we are turning our backs on the fact that radical Islam is heading in our direction and they don't want to sit down and have a beer on the White House lawn.

Our national security is already at risk here.  Allowing the problem to fester and grow in the Middle East is surely no way to deal with the enemy.  What we do need is someone in the White House who is willing to tackle these issues directly, and Obama is not the guy.  I believe that Osama would be alive today if Obama's ratings had not been in the toilet, but he's been looking for a way to shake his own rotten image and to get a positive uplift to his reelection campaign; killing Osama was the perfect solution.  Beyond that, Obama is impotent in foreign affairs, particularly in the Middle East.

I do happen to believe that we should cut Pakistan off, but only because the money is likely to end up in the wrong hands.  As for the nukes there?  I also happen to believe they are already in the hands of some terrorist groups.  That's a big wake up call, isn't it?

The real lesson to be learned here is that we need to be much more careful in choosing the people we elect the the White House.  When it comes to these sticky foreign affairs problems, I haven't yet identified one candidate in either party who I am comfortable with, especially our current President.

That's MY AMERICAN OPINION, rspectfully submitted.
