THE SYRIAN DILEMMA

SPECIAL POST

It is now confirmed that Russia has been supplying Syrian forces with military gear and that Russian helicopters capable of launching platform attacks against hordes of Syrian rebels are on their way to the civil war-torn country.  Russia, being warned by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to stop this activity, has basically flipped the bird at the United States.

Well, what would you expect?  We have a President who wants to release all Gitmo prisoners.  We have a President who is flubbing the situation with Iran and North Korea and who s firmly in the grip of left-wing liberal pacifists.  When you examine the Presidency from a Syrian or Russian viewpoint, we have no leadership.  Russia wouldn't dare think about being so flippant, (slight play on words intended), if Reagan were at our helm.

The quandary now arises.  Obama doesn't dare enter the fracas, even under the guise of U.N. or NATO cover, because doing so risks a hard-nosed confrontation with Putin, and Obama is not in the league of leaders who can deal effectively with the Putins of the world.  And, of course, such a confrontation if attempted could well lead to World War III.

It is possible that those being slaughtered in Syria will eventually cave in to the Syrian regime and that will be the end of that.  On the other hand, it is also possible that things could escalate and, by December 21st, the Mayan prophecy of the end of the world could come true.  One thing is, however, certain: should we engage in armed conflict in Syria, George Bush will NOT be to blame.

That's MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
