Erie County, New York has stepped into it big time. David Amherst received a notice that, based on the grounds of mental health, his gun license was being suspended and he had to turn in his weapons. He had briefly taken a medication on the prohibited list months ago, so thought he'd better comply, which he did. Late
Wednesday, the county released a statement blaming
the New York State Police for giving them bad information regarding the
suspension of a pistol permit and demand to surrender firearms sent to
Amherst resident David Lewis.
They had the wrong guy. No doctor had ever turn him in.
The story, however, does not end there. It is not clear, since he had taken a drug on the prohibited list, whether he can get his guns back or not. He has no arrest record and is a model citizen. There does not appear to be any mechanism for lifting the license suspension.
He's suing.
I hope he gets $1 billion. The bastards who did this to him should all lose their damned jobs. THIS IS WHAT OUR COUNTRY HAS BECOME???
That's MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
