IF ONLY THEY COULD TAKE DOWN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER AGAIN?

Nine years and one day ago, this country was terribly divided, religiously and politically and at all levels of society. Congress was asunder, there was no spirit of unity anywhere in this country and Bush had made some economic decisions bound to lead the country into trouble.

Nine years ago this morning, I awakened to a day of horror shared by all of us Americans everywhere. I was working in the casino business in Reno, Nevada, and arrived at work to discover that not one customer was playing slots or blackjack; there were no customers. The employees on duty were all huddled around the televisions at the bar or in the employee lounge, totally engrossed as the events of the day played out. It seems to me that within hours, certainly not more than a day or two, the American flag was waving at the front of businesses and houses throughout the country and we were unified, religiously and politically and at all levels of society; all of us in his great country stood together in mutual shock and anger at the atrocities of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA.

Nine years down the road, we are now divided both religiously and politically and at all levels of society. Congress is once again asunder, (but much worse), there is no spirit of unity in this country and Obama has proven himself to be a much worse President than either Bush could possibly be capable of. There’s a radical Muslim running amok who is bound and determined to build a Mosque at the site of the World Trade Center for the sole purpose of claiming a victory for Al Queda and Bin Laden and we have a President and a Mayor who seem intent on accommodating this venture of evil doing.

In short, our country now stands pulled apart in every direction and, frankly, every person in this country now has someone to hate or despise, whether it is someone of a different religion, another race, another level of society, a different political party, with more money or less money… someone in some category has become more than an acquaintance or associate and they have become an enemy to some extent. Even more ominous, those in the seats of power in Washington have morphed into being the enemy of all of us, refusing to consider our opinions in the polls or on blogs, denigrating us for forming alliances such as the Tea Parties while chastising us for demanding that our individual rights be recognized.

What happened to that spirit of national unity and patriotism that rose from the ashes of 9/11? Where did those days go when our government responded to we, the people, in a moment of national crisis? What have we done with the flags we so proudly displayed in those days, weeks and months?

Why have we allowed our country to deteriorate into a far worse condition than existed nine years and one day ago? What will it take to shock us back into reality and to encourage us to take charge of the situation? Can we see that the things that adversely affect our country today all emanate from the halls of power in Washington?

Do we need another World Trade Center event, or are we capable of rising to the occasion ourselves and of ridding ourselves of the sources of evil that exist in our government? Can we, the people, return our country to the days of national unity and patriotism or do we need another national disaster to make that happen?

That’s MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
