IT'S IN OUR HANDS: A NEW, BOLD AMERICAN SOLUTION

TERMINATE CONGRESS

According to a NBC/New York Times opinion poll conducted September 17th through the 20th, only 22% of Americans feel that Congress is doing a good job, and 66% specifically disapprove of the job that Congress is doing. The difference is a minus 44%. But here’s the shocker. The public has rated Congress at an overall -20% or worse for the last five years or more, (I can only go back to December of 2005 in my research).

The question is: WHY?

Regardless of political inclination, at least 66% of Americans will tell you today that Congress is not doing the job we elected Members to do. They will then go on to cite multiple symptoms of what they don’t like… corruption, total lack of ethics, outright lies, sexual scandals… Americans are sick and tired of being treated like third-class citizens while Congress conducts itself like a fourth class government. But, they are quick to shrug their shoulders when you suggest that we need to elect fresh blood. “If you can find a clean, capable and dedicated American who is willing to take the heat of running for Congress, and if they should by some miracle win, they will soon be corrupted by the existing culture of Congress.”

Bingo! Therein lays the problem. The cavalier attitude of Congress toward the people, the total disregard of propriety in office, the corruption and the downright dirty politics have all been in place for so long that they have evolved into a cancerous culture that has metastasized and is spreading like wildfire through all corridors of Washington and into the rest of society like a deadly viral plague.

You know it and I know it. They don’t give a rat’s ass what you think.

This “culture” transcends party lines. It has permeated every dark corner of all Congressional buildings. It knows no boundaries as to sex, age, party affiliation, religious background, color or creed. The only way to pry it out is to kill it. The only way to kill it is to terminate every last Member of Congress that we can, and then to fumigate the halls, corridors, offices and meeting chambers.

Here’s my proposition. It will take teamwork, with all Americans working side by side starting today. There’s an election coming up in 2010. One third of the Senate seats and all of the House seats will be up for election. Primaries will be held next summer. By working together, we can guarantee that every seat will have a new body sitting in it. If the Democrats, Republicans and Independents start to work right now to find a replacement for their Senators or Representatives currently in Congress, and if they vote them in to be their party's candidates during the primaries, then we go into November elections with fresh faces. This guarantees that, whichever party ultimately wins the seats, we have fresh blood in Washington, and I find it difficult to believe, after such a “voters’ revolution,” that the 2/3 of the Senators remaining can control or corrupt that much fresh blood.

In this process, we will have negated the corrupting influence of lobbyists, and we will have made it abundantly clear to Congress and the world that American government belongs to "We, the people," and that "We, the people," expect and demand excellence and professionalism from our elected representatives in all respects.

When I say “fresh blood,” I mean people who have not served in Congress before; people who have not made a career out of politics and who, regardless of party are patriotic Americans; people who have created a successful track record in their professions and who can bring to the table a fresh, bold new look to the heart and spirit of American government.

This may sound like a tall order and one big mountain to climb. I’m not suggesting that it will be a cake walk. But, if we can lay down our differences and stand side-by-side as Americans in this endeavor, we can succeed. We owe it to ourselves, our ancestors and our descendants. Truly, and we all know this to be true, if we fail, we fail America.

That's MY AMERICAN OPINION, respectfully submitted.
