This Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11/01. Bin Laden had promised to do things after that event to drive us nuts, and he did so from time to time. But, he also promised to perpetrate another horrible event on us on the 10th anniversary. Soon, it will be here.
Of course, Bin Laden is dead. Khalid Sheik Mohamed is at Guantanamo. The hijack pilots and crews are probably down to the last of their 72 virgins by now. Several remaining top leaders of Al Qaeda have been taken out. How could there be that much to fear?
In looking at videos of that day and watching post-event analysis and summaries, one thing becomes apparent: These guys are patient bastards and they do plan things down to the last detail. They planned the 9/11 tragedy for months and even years before the fateful day. So, I don't know that Osama's demise would have any effect on something that might be in the works for Sunday.
I don't want to scare anyone, but we cannot be complacent, either. We need to be very alert this week to what is going on around us. Anything that seems out-of-place needs to be investigated and reported to the authorities. If you remember, the things we were worried about were water supplies, reservoirs, electrical transmission lines, computer attacks and the food supply. Those are things we need to pay attention to.
There are likely targets, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Los Angeles International Airport and Las Vegas casinos. Any high-profile location such as those could be a target and those of us who are around them should be extra alert for signs of anything wrong.
Hopefully, the day will pass without incident, but we need to be prepared, just in case.
