United We Stood, Divided We’re Falling

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…” And so it was that our forefathers set us upon a course of action that would lead to the United States of America, a nation where we have stood together for 245 years.

 

Ancestors on both sides of my family were here in 1636… 140 years before these words were written and 153 years before our Constitution formally bound us together into a nation of states. We resolved ourselves to secure the blessings of our freedoms and our republic for the protection of our posterity, and off we ventured into the wars, trials and tribulations that have led us to this time of national distress.   

 

The ties that once firmly held us together are frayed.  Our inner passions, once focused on preserving this great nation, are rapidly decaying into greed, corruption and other self-serving agendas.  Civil discourse has become a thing of the past, as our religious foundations and principles have eroded. In fact, the unity we once enjoyed has decayed into belligerent disagreement over just about anything and everything. 

 

This decline brings us to the point of frequent riots, pillaging, looting, burning, rape, murder and outright disregard of the laws we so revered just a few years ago.  We’ve become a nation divided by race, religion, education, wealth, profession, politics, gender and national origin. Our divisions have become so vitriolic that the gun and ammunition manufacturers can’t keep up with the demand as we “arm up” and prepare for what we see as the forthcoming collapse of our government and our society… and probable anarchy. 

 

I think it’s time we got a grip on what we are doing to ourselves.
